I find myself sitting at home writing this while recovering from a full on weekend of musical activities. First off there was the Friday night’s Race for the Place in Faringdon, a community organised event for our local children’s centre known as The Place. Los Amigos involvement was  Kehoe and The Big Boss Groove playing tunes before, between and after the two bands, NMG and Retro Revival. (Los Amigos member Del Boyo also being a member of both). Also another of our company, Doctor Block, provided the wonderful PA and lighting and calmly looked after the sound. The next night was a night off to see The (mighty) Dualers in Oxford with Echoman and Mike L and friends, while another contingent of the Amigos went to see a fine Led Zeppelin tribute band in Abingdon.

Preparing now for the next tranche of Los Amigos events, beginning with some involvement with the Faringdon Record fair on Saturday 18th November with later on the same day some of us playing tunes from the 60s and 70s at the Mayor Rocks at the Corn Exchange. Charlie is preparing a short Beatles tribute section on the night. But the next big one is the return of four Los Amigos DJs to Tap Social in Oxford, this one involving Echoman, Dj Dee, The Big Boss Groove and Kehoe playing an hour each on the night. Mike L and I had such a great time there back in October at our Tap Social debut. Great that the venue are giving us this opportunity to spread our tunes outside the town we are established in, and it’s a fantastic social enterprise project, friendly and informal and not at all corporate.

Looking ahead we have plans for a New Year’s Day fundraiser at the Pump House Project, building on our experience at this year’s New Year’s Day at The Bell (sadly still firmly shut) and a further variation on the Swan Love series at The Swan in Faringdon at the end of January. Still further ahead is the notion to put on something special in the Folly Tower woodland in the summertime. Dates to be confirmed and this blog to be continued.
